Mocvara (english: Underground) is a Serbian thriller tv show in which three detectives join forces to solve a series of mysterious murders. The plot is set during a hot summer in Vojvodina, a usually calm and pristine part of Serbia. Besides bloodshed, this season also puts the main actors’ pursuit for love and fulfillment in the spotlight.
I was in charge of Art direction on this project.
Rembrandt Harmenson van Rijn was a Dutch baroque painter and artist. Since he died in the 17th century, he didn't have a chance to try out social media, but I tried to imagine what his Instagram feed would look like If he were alive and creating in the 21st century. He would follow and interact with his clients, models, teachers, relevant art institutions, share selfies of his time - self-portraits and get commissioned for new work in his DMs.
The play "Ja sam Akiko" (english: I am Akiko), based on Stefan Ticmi’s novel, puts the relationship between a child and a parent in the spotlight, through exploring growing up with a single parent and children's loneliness. Akiko is not an ordinary girl, she is different from her peers, she is wise and inclosed in her own world but free and brave in her thoughts, ideas and attitudes. As such, she is a testament that all the differences around us make the world we live in richer.
In the play, an older Akiko, unpacks the key events from her childhood from her "suitcases" and overcomes her internal conflicts that arose precisely from her relationship with her parents.
I have never been afraid of monsters under my bed, witches, vampires and similar creatures. The scariest things to me were the ones I could see but couldn’t control such as natural disasters, accidents, diseases.
Mental illnesses have a pretty bad reputation. Many people treat them as character flaws, and not as real diseases that cannot be cured in a heartbeat. I turned the mental illnesses into real monsters that make innocent people feel and do things they would never want themselves. The names of these monsters are Paranoia, Bulimia, Anorexia and Addiction.
